Training

The focus of Schunnemunk Shadow Stables is to offer a positive, friendly environment and quality facilities to all our clients. The serene atmosphere of the farm gives all people, young and old, from all backgrounds, the opportunity to really experience the gift of horses and horseback riding.

Our trainers are often asked whose methods do you utilize when training a horse. The answer is "Pat Parelli, John Lyons, Ray Hunt, Tellington-Jones, etc." because in some form or another we use all of these and more depending upon the horse and what we want to accomplish. If a horse is "spooky", won't load, walks off when you mount, runs away with you, or has other like issues, our trainers can help. They do not look for a quick fix to mask a symptom, they look for & address the source of the problem.

Schunnemunk Shadow Stables' philosophy of holistic horsemanship emphasizes the importance of looking at the "whole" picture including the interdependence of the horse and rider. While our talented trainers are experts at starting your horses, correcting problem areas, or teaching a new discipline; they excel at creating a harmonious and enjoyable partnership between horse and rider.
