Tony Mason

Recognized as one of the last instructors who still teaches the old and proper methods of Classical Dressage , Mason combines his extensive knowledge of riding with a unique gift of being able to “read” horses.  In doing so, he is able to advise and correct riders putting them on the path to improvement, often with startling results. The methods he uses are entirely horse friendly and for many riders it is the first time they realize the lightness potential of their horses. Mason has taught his method of riding at Hollybush Dressage Center for the last twenty-four years and also teaches lessons and clinics at Schunnemunk Stables. He also travels to England, France, Holland and Italy to teach. He is the author of the forthcoming book, "The Art of the Energy" and has appeared on television demonstrating his capacity as a horse psychic.

Born in India, Mason started riding as a toddler in a basket saddle on the back of a tack pony.  Upon returning to England with his family at age twelve, he began his formal riding education with the late Capt. Alexander-Clarke (Ret’d Royal Cavalry).  Throughout his life, he has studied the Art of classical riding.  After coming to the USA in 1970, Mason returned to Europe several times a year to study with Reitlehrer Erich Kurschner, a retired senior instructor to the German Cavalry.  After Mr. Kurschner’as death in 1978, Tony found Oberreiter Karl Mikolka, late of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, with whom he has been studying Fine Horsemanship with on and off ever since.
